'Heilige – Liturgie – Raum', Wissenschaftliche Studientagung. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Arbeitskreis für hagiographische Fragen und dem Lehrstuhl für Mittelalterliche Geschichte der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Religion ist wesentlich bestimmt durch eine Vorstellung vom Heiligen. Dieses manifestiert sich im heiligen Raum, der abgegrenzt ( sanctus) ist gegenüber dem außerhalb bzw. vor dem Heiligtum ( pro fano) Liegenden, tritt aber auch zu bestimmten, abgegrenzten Zeiten, in speziellen Handlungen und nicht zuletzt in besonders ausgezeichneten Menschen in Erscheinung. Dies gilt auch für das Christentum, in dem Heiligkeit als allein von Gott ausgehend gedacht wird und zunächst nur Menschen geheiligt werden können: die ganze christliche Gemeinde. Doch schon früh spielen heilige „Heroen“ eine hervorgehobene Rolle: Märtyrer und andere Glaubenszeugen genießen nach dem Tod auch kultische Verehrung und werden zu Mittlergestalten des Heiligen mit großer Wirkmacht – speziell dort, wo sie in besonderer Weise präsent sind, etwa durch Reliquien und/oder Patronate. Heiligenverehrung geht ein in die liturgische Feier und vollzieht sich im abgegrenzten Kultraum – also in Kirchenräumen, die dadurch in Bauform und Ausstattung spezifisch geprägt werden –, findet aber auch im profanen Bereich statt und kann hier Heiligung bewirken.

The second conference on Disease, Disability and Medicine in Early Medieval Europe , AD 400-1200 will focus on questions of what constitutes a healthy body in the medieval world, health care, cure and the language of care. The meeting aims to be a forum for scholars working on the topic in a variety of disciplines and regions of Northern Europe , including all aspects of disease, disability and medicine.
