論文集だったとは。
いくつか読んだものあるし。

1章は邦訳されている論文ですよね。
ゲイブリエル・Ｍ・スピーゲル（渡部ちあき・越智博美訳）「歴史・歴史主義・中世テクストの社会論理」（『思想』vol. 838、1994年、4‐39頁）

言語論的転回について、それが歴史学にとってどういうインパクトがあるのかよくわからなかった若かりし頃にこれを読んだ記憶がある。
ちなみに『思想』のこの号がその辺の特集だったはず。ゲオルグ・イッガースのもよかった。

で、著者はジョン・ホプキンス大学の先生。
スピーゲル女史といえば、中世における歴史叙述の問題を扱った

Romancing the Past: The Rise of Vernacular Prose Historiography in Thirteenth-Century France (New Historicism: Studies in Cultural Poetics)

が有名かと（さらにこの前の作品も有名だけどはまぞうではでなかった）。

思えば中世における歴史叙述の問題、記憶と記録の問題といったものが活況を呈する起爆剤の一つとなった著作のように思えます。
ちなみにこの作品は歴代フランス王権の「菩提寺」（実はそれどころではないのだが）サン＝ドニ修道院が1274年から書き綴った「準公式」王家の歴史『フランス大年代記』Grandes Chroniquesを取り上げた。さらにその歴史がなぜ俗語で書かれたかとか。

しかし、聞くところによるとスピーゲルは「理論派」的イメージがあって、敬遠する人がいるようですね。
大した読んでいるわけではありませんが、そんなに「空中戦」しているようには見えないんですけど。
